Extraction built into the hob
The hob with the extractor built in. Bora draws steam downwards at the pan instead of chasing it with a hood, which frees up the space above an island completely.
About Bora
Bora exists because its founder got tired of extractor hoods. Willi Bruckbauer patented the idea in Bavaria and the company has been selling it since 2007. Instead of a hood trying to catch steam after it has risen and spread, the extractor sits in the hob and pulls it down at the pan.
The result is a hob with nothing above it. On an island that means clear sightlines and being able to talk to people while you cook. In a room with a low or sloping ceiling it removes the problem altogether. Because the air is caught at source, the fan is not working as hard, so it runs quieter than a hood doing the same job.
It is a system rather than a single appliance, and it carries a premium price. The air has to go somewhere, either ducted out through the floor or the plinth, or through a recirculation unit with filters. That means it has to be designed into the kitchen, the worktop and the cabinetry before anything is built. Talk to us at drawing stage rather than after.
