Elica appliances in Bristol
Italian extraction, designed to be seen
One of the world’s largest makers of cooker hoods, and the brand behind NikolaTesla, the induction hob with the extraction built into the middle of it.
About Elica
Started in Fabriano in 1970, Elica has spent most of its life treating the extractor as something you look at rather than something you hide. Wall, island, ceiling and downdraft hoods all sit in the range, in glass, steel and painted finishes.
The product it is best known for is NikolaTesla. It is an induction hob with the extraction built into the centre, so steam and cooking smells are pulled down at the pan instead of up to a hood. That leaves the ceiling above an island completely clear. Models can be ducted outside or run as recirculating units with charcoal filters, which matters in flats and extensions where an external wall is not close by.
Elica also makes conventional built-in and canopy hoods for kitchens where the extraction sits inside a chimney breast or a cabinet.
It is not the cheapest way to clear the air. If the hood is going to be the visible object above an island, or you want the hob and extractor in one appliance, it is worth a look. For a unit that will be hidden behind a door, a plainer brand will do the same job.
